Line up 2014: Heritage Blues Orchestra

26 02 2014

“Listen to their debut album, And Still I Rise, or witness a live performance by the Heritage Blues Orchestra and you’ll recognize this group as something breathtakingly new even as they honor old African-American musical traditions.

The group is driven by the powerful rhythms of Grammy-awarding winning blues drummer Kenny “Beedy Eyes” Smith; buttressed by the churning, precise and percussive rhythms of harmonica virtuoso, Frenchman Vincent Bucher; and set ablaze with some of New York City’s heaviest horn players who have worked with everyone from Wynton Marsalis to Sting and Springsteen.

Heritage Blues Orchestra also boasts contributions from Bruno Wilhelm, the group’s highly esteemed tenor saxophonist and horn arranger. A native of France, Wilhelm is influenced by an extensive palette of jazz styles. Whether with ethereal musings or hard-hitting section work, his arrangements punctuate every song they touch.

This, combined with Bill, Chaney and Junior’s collective history in jazz, R&B and gospel, helps articulate and underscore the Heritage Blues Orchestra’s striking voice. At the heart of the group is a broad spectrum of the blues and the longstanding musical mingling between America and Europe that brings together African-American music, Modern Jazz and Western European harmony.

Nowhere is the breadth of Heritage Blues Orchestra’s vision and reach better evidenced than on the album’s closing piece, Hard Times. This song, in 3 movements, demonstrates it all: the traditional call-and-response between a lone voice and guitar; a bewitching horn composition peppered with Miles Davis’ A Silent Way; and a final transition to a roof-raising funk jam that leaps out and shoves you onto the dance floor.”-from http://www.heritagebluesorchestra.com/music.php

Line up 2014: Trampled Under Foot

23 01 2014

This is the the official video for Bad Bad Feeling off the new album ‘Badlands’.
Siblings Danielle, Kris and Nick Schnebelen grew up with the Blues. Their parents, Bob and Lisa, were active in the thriving Kansas City Blues scene, playing in local bands and competing in the Kansas City Blues Challenge. Bob and Lisa’s band didn’t make it to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis — but their kids did.

TUF took First Place in the competition and Nick won the Albert King award for best guitarist, it was a sweet victory for the Schnebelen family and for Kansas City itself. TUF has been on a roll ever since, becoming popular repeat headliners at clubs, festivals and cruises around the world and releasing CDs and a DVD on their own label.

Trampled Under Foot’s brand new CD, Badlands was produced by Tony Braunagel, and features guest appearances by Mike Finnigan and engineer/guitarist Johnny Lee Schell.
In the future, when people speak of the great Blues dynasties, musical families who breathed the same musical air and produced the highest form of the art, chances are they’ll refer to the Allmans, the Dickinsons, the Burnsides, the Brookses, the Neals… and the Schnebelens

Some of their many awards are: 2012 Pitch Music Awards- Best Blues Band, 2012 Blues Blast Music Awards-Band of the Year,2011 Blues Blast Music Awards-Band of the Year.

Make sure you save June 14th on you calendar because as always it ain’t nothin’ but a party!!
